Scientific Background
To promote optimal bone and tooth health, and to prevent potentially devastating bone diseases such as osteoporosis, calcium supplementation is usually recommended. As is well known, this is especially important for women past menopause. What is less well known is that one in eight Canadian men over the age of 50 will also develop osteoporosis. In addition, calcium supplementation is recommended for everyone, especially those with risk factors for osteoporosis - and many of these are all too common.
For example, any of the following would increase your risk factor for osteoporosis: small build; Caucasian or Asian ancestry; family history of osteoporosis; low levels of physical activity, especially weight-bearing exercise; low calcium intake; limited exposure to sunlight (very common due to fear of skin cancer); low levels of Vitamin D in the diet; drinking more than three cups a day of coffee, tea, or cola; drinking more than two alcoholic drinks a day; and smoking.
Calcium, Magnesium and Vitamin D - an ideal combination
Our bones need calcium, but a calcium supplement on its own will not suffice because calcium must be taken with magnesium and Vitamin D in order for our bodies to absorb it. This is why calcium, magnesium and Vitamin D in just the right balance are the ideal combination to promote healthy bones. Magnesium activates an enzyme that triggers the formation of calcium crystals in our bones, and also converts Vitamin D to its active form - which is essential for efficient absorption of calcium.

Contraindications
Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you are taking Thiazide diuretics. Avoid using Bisphosphonate, Levothyroxine, Quinolone, Sotalol (Betapace) or Tetracycline two (2) hours prior to or until four (4) hours after taking this product.
