Dark Cherry Concentrate is a rich source of antioxidants and phytonutrients that help to protect cells from damage and support immune health.*

Dark cherry concentrate may help to lower uric acid levels, which can be beneficial for sufferers of gout, a painful condition caused by uric acid buildup in the joints.*

While published literature suggests that tart cherries have a higher overall concentration of phenolic compounds, the plant-based chemicals with associated health benefits, sweet cherries contain more anthocyanins.

Anthocyanins are naturally occurring compounds that contribute to a plant’s pigmentation. Anthocyanins impart blue, red, and purple coloring to plants.

Anthocyanins have amazing antioxidant properties, which we need to preserve the health and structural integrity of cells and to inhibit oxidative stress caused by free radicals. Anthocyanins are also believed to have great anti-inflammatory properties.

According to best-selling author and physician Dr. Michael Greger, sweet cherries are a natural alternative to anti-inflammatory drugs due to their high anthocyanin concentration. While anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen and naproxen suppress the enzyme responsible for pain and inflammation (COX-2), they also suppress the enzyme that protects the stomach lining (COX-1). This is why habitual use of anti-inflammatory drugs has been linked to deaths caused by bleeding and perforation of the stomach wall.

Cherries, however, suppress the inflammatory enzyme COX-2 with minimal effect on the COX-1 enzyme.*
