Description

North American Herb & Spice Black Seed Oil

Black Seed Oil is a heart-healthy plant-based oil (high in oleic acid, and a natural source of omega-3s, 6s, and 9s) extracted from Nigella sativa (commonly called Black Cumin) flowers. Like super-charged sunflower oil, it has powerful antioxidant properties and a number of active constituents with an impressive array of documented health benefits, including protecting against respiratory infections and LDL (bad) cholesterol.

Product Details

People have been using Nigella sativa seeds or oil for a variety of conditions to good effect for about 2,000 years in the Middle East, and there are now hundreds of modern scientific studies identifying their active compounds and detailing their benefits, which include: reducing hayfever allergies, asthma, and inflammation (of numerous kinds), and supporting liver and immune function.

These two N.A.H.S. offerings are sourced from that region, as well, and are presented in a choice of a pure oil (which can either be consumed orally or used topically, to help the skin with conditions like blisters, wounds, eczema, or even vitiligo) or in capsules (which are enhanced with several other types of beneficial spice oils for additional digestive support).

Apart from its actual essential fatty acids food oil content, black seed oil reportedly has over 100 specific chemical compounds among its more general groupings of alkaloids, coumarins, flavonoids, saponins, sterols, and terpenes, with several of these being identified as "active constituents," including thymoquinone (TQ, which is generally believed to be the most significant one), nigellone, thymohydroquinone, dithymoquinone, thymol, carvacrol, nigellimine, nigellicine, nigellidine and alphahederin. Collectively, they have been found to have anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, anti-viral, anti-hypertensive, anti-inflammatory and of course anti-oxidant effects, as well as cholesterol-lowering and immunomodulatory properties... and a whole lot more.

Some of these actives (especially TQ, but also d-limonene (carvone), carvone, pinene-α, and p-cymene) are present in black seed oil's essential oil (EO) component, which can benefit the digestive system with their anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. And for those seeking more assistance in that area, N.A.H.S. had added an EO spice blend to the capsules, consisting of the concentrated terpenes (aromatic compounds) from:

* (regular, non-black) Cumin, which can help relieve irritable bowel syndrome symptoms like bloating, nausea, and painful bowel movements;

* Rosemary, which can help relieve gas or heartburn;

* Fennel, to help with bloating, indigestion, and constipation; and of course,

Their flagship product, Oregano, shares black seed oil's ability to fight off various types of infections and reduce gastrointestinal inflammation.

Notes: The liquid version may be priced slightly lower in-store. Product labels are slightly different than the examples shown.

How to Take

Adults: Take 2 soft gel capsules once per day, with food (may cause gastrointestinal upset when taken on an empty stomach). If you are also taking supplements containing iron, zinc, calcium or copper, take the Oil of Black Seed capsules either a few hours before or after those. Keep product stored in an airtight container, protected from light.
